Andres' work on Cathedral Guadalupe
attracts lots of media attention

The renovation of the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe (known to most as simply the Cathedral Guadalupe) has caught the attention of many in Dallas.

In a thorough, two-page story entitled, "Inspired Vision," The Dallas Morning News captured the many fascinating elements of the cathedral's story.

The story reveals facts about the cathedral's famous architect, Nicholas Clayton, and his original designs for the building.

The project's construction challenges also were described, especially those related to building Clayton's bell tower 100 years after the foundation was poured.

A diagram illustrates how Andres construction professionals drove piers 54 feet deep and into bedrock to support the addition of the bell tower. Rebar and additional concrete were added to the existing foundation in several layers to provide additional support.

The story also illustrates the 49 pure bronze bells which had to lifted into place in the bell tower. The largest bell stands 5 ft. 10 in. and weighs 7,500 lbs.

Television also covered the construction process. One reporter from "Good Morning Texas" (ABC affiliate WFAA-TV), gave viewers a chance to see construction professionals at work high above the street in the bell tower.

The Cathedral Guadalupe draws an average of 11,150 worshippers each weekend, ranking it in attendance behind only St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
